Women's Volleyball Finishes Second 2010 Rhody Four Championship


(http://providence.jwuathletics.com) The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team captured the Rhody Four Tournament, held at the Harborside Recreation Center and hosted by Johnson & Wales.  JWU took second place at the tournament.  In the two preliminary matches, Johnson & Wales posted a 3-2 (25-13, 29-25, 16-25, 27-25, 15-5) victory against Salve Regina while Roger Williams had a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-13) win against Rhode Island College.  In the championship match, RWU swept 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) while Salve Regina finished in third place with a 3-2 (25-22, 25-18, 12-25, 21-25,15-5) victory over Rhode Island College.


In the opener for Johnson & Wales, senior Catherine Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) recorded a quadruple double with 11 kills, 17 set assists, 19 digs and 11 service aces.  Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) led the way for Salve Regina with 12 kills and seven blocks.
Roger Williams reached the championship match when senior Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) notched 16 kills and four blocks while Brenna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) recorded seven kills and 10 digs in the setback for Rhode Island College.
In the championship match, Johnson & Wales was led by Bravo with nine kills, nine set assists and seven digs while freshmanKrystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) paced Roger Williams with nine kills and four blocks.
The third place match saw Salve Regina win in five as Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) recorded 15 kills while Boyer had 13 kills and 12 digs in the setback for Rhode Island College.
Johnson & Wales is now 16-8 on the season.  The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, October 14th when they host Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
